TurnOnGreen has partnered with the reforestation non-profit One Tree Planted. The TurnOnGreen “One4One” initiative aims to help restore U.S. forests by planting one tree for every residential and commercial Electric Vehicle charging unit sold and raising additional donations from clients and corporate partners.

In one year, a mature tree will absorb more than 24 kilograms of carbon dioxide (“CO2”) from the atmosphere and release oxygen in exchange, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture website. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates the average internal combustion engine passenger vehicle emits around 4,600 kilograms of CO2 each year. It takes about 200 mature trees to offset the CO2 output of one standard passenger vehicle. As of 2021, One Tree Planted has more than 40 million trees in the ground, equivalent to an estimated 200,000 internal combustion engine vehicles’ annual CO2 emissions.

The initiative seeks to plant a minimum of 10,000 trees a year over the next ten years. TurnOnGreen’s partnership with One Tree Planted reflects its commitment to sustainability and mitigation of the negative impact of carbon emissions.

In the state of California, wildfires have been an ongoing and escalating issue for the past decade. According to global climate and environmental scientists, climate change is one of the greatest driving forces impacting the scale and magnitude of recent fires that have raged throughout the Golden state.

From 2011 to 2020, there were an average of 62,805 wildfires annually in the United States, and an average of 7.5 million acres were directly affected each year. In 2020 alone, 58,950 wildfires burned through 10.1 million acres, the second-most acreage impacted in a single year since 1960; nearly 40% of these acres were in California. 

The Dixie Fire in 2021 has burned approximately three-quarters of a million acres, with 700 homes being destroyed in the process. Air quality levels have been horrific in some parts of the state, with CalFire only having contained roughly 35% of the blaze. It was California’s second-ranked most powerful and destructive wildfire in the state’s history.

We’re kicking off this project with a donation of 1,000 trees.

Our initial donation will be benefiting a recent wildfire location in Northern California that was destroyed by the Sheep Fire. The Sheep fire was the largest CA fire in the complex that occurred in September 2020. This fireset nearly 30,000 acres ablaze three miles southwest of Susanville, California. Three residences have been destroyed and 250 are threatened. It took a crew of hundreds of volunteers and fire professionals to contain.

This project will restore and replant 2,500 acres of California forest that was burned in the Sheep Fire. The land will be site prepped and then hand planted at a density of approximately 200 trees per acre.

Global warming emissions in areas with large EV-adoption and EV-driver populations see a significant reduction with their increase in EV sales every year.

A new report from RMI has found that optimized EV charging could significantly reduce transportation sector emissions, and could potentially result in an average of 800 pounds of CO₂ saved per vehicle annually. This is equivalent to avoiding the emissions resulting from 900 miles of driving by a typical gas-powered car, in addition to the emissions savings already captured by driving an EV.
